Ocho fotografías que presento para la Inauguración del Centro Cultural de España, el miércoles 12 de junio a las 19 hrs. en la exposición colectiva "Puertas Abiertas".
"CUARTO OSCURO"
Serie de fotografías en blanco y negro que lidian con el deseo, el fetiche y la masculinidad. Estas fotografías fueron impresas y exhibidas por espacio de un mes en el “cuarto oscuro” de una discoteca gay del Centro Histórico de Guatemala, debiendo verse durante ese tiempo únicamente a la luz del celular. El daño de las impresiones responde al trato ocasionado por lo que ocurrió (y suele ocurrir) en una de esas instalaciones y se considera una intervención de la pieza, dándole otras lecturas y carácter.
“Dark Room” is a black and white photographic series that deals with desire, fetish and masculinity. These photographs were printed and exhibited for one month in the “dark room” or “black room” of a gay bar located in Guatemala City’s downtown area. The photos could only be glanced at using the glow from people’s cell phones. The physical damage caused to the prints is due to what naturally tends to occur in such spaces, which is considered an “intervention” to the piece of art, providing it with additional readings and character.
Erotismo y decadencia en un cuarto oscuro: un llamado fascinante al anonimato.
La parte emocionante, el fin último de los llamados "cuartos oscuros" es el anonimato, es decir, lo antónimo del contacto social "aceptable".
Estos retratos pretenden mostrar hombres -para hombres- utilizando el erotismo como carnada. Captando la atención del espectador por medio del cuerpo masculino como objeto de deseo y hasta como fetiche, se completa una galería de fotos sin luz, metáfora del "cuarto oscuro". Esto, a criterio del artista, constituye una expresión de voyeurismo al mismo tiempo distante y al mismo tiempo descarado, que es precisamente una de las paradojas que caracterizan la forma en que algunos hombres se permiten disfrutar, tal vez secretamente, la imagen de otro hombre.

These portraits show men –for the pleasure of other men– using eroticism as bait. Capturing the spectator’s attention through the male body as both an object of desire and an object of fetish, a whole gallery of lightless photos is completed, a metaphor for “the dark room”. This, in the artist’s intention, constitutes an expression of voyeurism that is both distant and blatant at once, precisely one of the paradoxes that allow for some males to enjoy, perhaps secretly, the image of another male
